Allurion Technologies was founded in 2009, during Sammy and Shantanu's second year at Harvard Medical School, when they began to rethink popular perceptions of weight loss. To better understand the journeys of people who were overweight or struggling with obesity, Sammy and Shantanu did something out of the ordinary: they listened to their patients’ stories. Now, Allurion is transforming thousands of lives around the world.
Sammy and Shantanu realized that overweight individuals were frustrated by the ineffectiveness of dieting, but they were afraid of the invasiveness—or simply could not afford—weight loss surgery. More importantly, their patients were asking for something easy and convenient, without the medical complexity that accompanies other weight loss therapies. As they started researching solutions, they imagined what would become Allurion’s flagship product—the Elipse Balloon™.
After more than 6 years committed to R&D, the Elipse Balloon was born. Following European CE Marking in 2015, the Elipse Balloon has been used by thousands of individuals and is rapidly becoming the weight loss balloon of choice. It is currently available across Europe and the Middle East.
