A Plea for Common Decency on Obesity

In his namesake show on HBO, Bill Maher recently claimed that “fat isn’t a birth defect” and “fat-shaming doesn’t need to end, it needs to make a comeback.” [1] Just a few days prior to this, in his viewpoint [2] published in Radio Times, Michael Buerk writes “Leave couch potatoes alone. They’re weak, not ill.” He goes on to argue that letting obese individuals die away will ultimately save the UK precious healthcare dollars.
